The Goldfoil
Do they deserve the hype?
Yes.
I pretty much got started winding pickups because I had a dead set of Teisco goldfoils. And down the rabbithole I went. There were nearly a dozen goldfoil style pickups from Japanese and American makers and they all have something that makes them special. I've combined what I've learned from digging into hundreds of these pickups to create expressive, versitile, and toneful pickups. These are no novelty pickups. They are my favorite and when the right style of goldfoil is matched with the right player the results are magic. Basically I offer three different specs: Teisco, Guyatone, and DeArmond. Teisco Spec and Guyatone spec both use 43awg wire wound to 6k on the neck and 7k on the bridge, but Teisco uses a ceramic bar magnet and Guyatone uses an alnico 5. DeArmond uses a ceramic bar magnet, 44awg wire and is wound to 9k on the neck and 10k on the bridge. The Teisco spec is probably the most recognizable as a goldfoil and the spec that most people think of when they think goldfoil. The Guyatone is similar, but a little sweeter and warmer and "Stratier." I feel like the Guyatone spec is probably the most versatile of the three. The DeArmond is definitely a different flavor, kind of a cross between a goldfoil and a P90. They're also very clear and touch sensitive as well. Basically it's a choice between Japanese catalog guitars and American catalog guitars.

Goldbucker
Goldbuckers are simply two goldfoil style coils side-by-side in the cover of your choice. You've probably seen some other builders offering something like this, but in a giant cover. I offer Goldbuckers in all of the standard sizes except Strat and Tele. Much like a traditional humbucker vs. single-coil, the Goldbucker is going to be warmer and beefier than a standard goldfoil, but still retaining a lot of the goldfoil character.
